The International Baccalaureate (IB) forged a groundbreaking partnership with four Offices of Education on 21 March at the IB Global Conference 2024 in Daegu, Republic of Korea. This partnership will continue transforming the educational landscape in the region, increasing access to high-quality international education for all Korean students.
Director General of the IB, Olli-Pekka Heinonen, Chief Business Development Officer of the IB Matt Costello, along with the Governors of Education of Seoul, Incheon, Jeonbuk and Chungcheongnamdo, formalized their partnership through a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) to bring the IB programmes to public and private education schools.
The MOC aims to integrate IB’s programme offerings within the Republic of Korea’s public and private schools, enhancing learning outcomes, increasing access to holistic, inquiry-based education to students, and providing professional development opportunities for teachers in the Korean language.
Director General of the IB said: “This partnership extends the IB’s innovative work across one of the world’s most advanced education systems. It represents a transformative era in education in the Republic of Korea and worldwide, reaffirming our dedication to increasing access to high-quality education and equal opportunities for all learners. And at the same time, the Global Conference at Daegu doubled down on our commitment to the Republic of Korea and the wider IB community, providing a forum for new ideas and practices that the members will bring home and share around the world.”
Through this collaboration, the IB and the Offices of Education seek to facilitate the introduction of its programmes to new schools across the Republic of Korea and provide resources in Korean to facilitate its implementation. These new partnerships are in addition to the four others already established with the Offices of Education of Daegu, Jeju, Gyeonggido and Jeollanamdo.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) hosted educators, experts, and IB practitioners at its Global Conference in Daegu, Republic of Korea, on 21-23 March.
