The IB will welcome over 500 educators, experts, and school leaders from 24 countries to its first IberoAmerica Conference in Bogota, Colombia, form 13 to15 June 2024. This global event marks the first time the IB will offer breakout sessions and keynotes entirely in Spanish and Portuguese, actively connecting the IB’s Spanish and Portuguese-speaking communities in IberoAmerica.
The theme of this year’s conferences is “Inspiring learners, realizing potential.” The focus will be largely on how educators can collaborate and learn from each other to create solutions to today’s classroom challenges.
The event will take place at the Universidad de La Sabana de Bogotá, where IB’s Director General Olli-Pekka Heinonen will deliver opening remarks while Maripé Menéndez, the IB’s Head of Development and Recognition, IberoAmerica, will provide a closing statement.
Keynote speakers expected to be featured during the conference include Dr Cristóbal Cobo, a Senior Specialist in Education and Technology, who will present on transformations in education through Artificial Intelligence. Roy Harley, a mechanical industrial engineer and motivational speaker, will give a presentation on “the uncertainty of the day to day.” Both speakers will deliver their presentations in Spanish.
Event attendees will be treated to student performances and other presentations to highlight students’ voices in the region. In addition, the Festival of Hope arrived on 7 June to The Victoria School in Bogota, where 28 public and private schools came from around Colombia to celebrate the power of arts and well-being. This year’s Festival of Hope session opened with a well-known batucada group AAINJA started by Homero Cortes from Colombia.
More than 70 breakout sessions in Spanish and Portuguese will focus on learning more about the IB, advancing conversations about best practice in the classroom, and sharing ideas among IB community member and educators.
