Researchers from the University of Leeds recently completed a study exploring Diploma Programme (DP) students’ mathematical readiness for university studies. The study consisted of a survey of DP mathematics higher level (HL) students worldwide and an analysis of the higher education outcomes of students from the UK (both DP graduates and students with other qualifications). The students in the survey indicated that they had high levels of self-confidence and self-efficacy and generally felt well prepared for university-level mathematics. In terms of higher education outcomes, DP mathematics HL students performed well in comparison to students with other qualifications, with higher percentages obtaining first-class degrees across multiple degree subjects.
