Rachel Powell Young completed the Primary Years Programme (PYP) at Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) at DC International School (DCI), both in Washington DC, USA. She is continuing her studies at DCI in the IB Diploma Programme (DP).
What do you think is special about learning in the PYP?
I think that learning with your friends and making that bond of friendship. I think being able to learn another language at a young age is also special.
What was your PYP exhibition about?
My PYP exhibition was on my first trip to China and the experience I was able to be a part of, including understanding a new culture.
How well did the PYP prepare you for future study, especially study in the MYP?
It prepared me well, being that I was able to already understand some of what we were learning and be able to smoothly transition into the MYP.
What has been the best part of the MYP so far?
The best part was being able to make new friends and being given the opportunity to continue my language skills and travel to my target language country, China.
Who has inspired you most as an IB student?
My math teacher Mr Rampersaud has inspired me the most. He is invested in the best for me and has always helped me through tough times. If I ever needed extra help or just someone to talk to he would always have a listening ear. Without Mr Ramp I might have not passed math class or been motivated to continue in an IB school.
