The Ignite programme is funded by the South Australian Department of Education and Children's Services. Three secondary schools, including Glenunga IHS, operate as a consortium and have been provided with resources to cater for the needs of highly gifted students by recognizing their individual needs and offering flexibility in learning. Selected at grade 8, these students focus on critical, creative and caring thinking and work alongside their intellectual peers regardless of age difference. Ignite students can follow an accelerated programme through middle school, completing years 8, 9 and 10 in two years. Alternatively, they can opt for a companion programme that emphasizes subject acceleration and lateral extension, rather than grade skipping. Both tracks require a challenging, innovative curriculum that enriches the learning of gifted students, and enables them to maximize their potential. Our school has found the MYP to be ideal for such students, ensuring a smooth transition for them to the Diploma Programme.
