New IB educator certificate universities

The University of British Columbia joins the IB educator certificate network

The IB is pleased to announce that the University of British Columbia (UBC) may now offer the IB certificate in teaching and learning, PYP, MYP, DP. While visiting UBC, the IB recognition team took a close look at the proposed course of study and how it aligns with the IB standards and practices.


The recognition team approved the Bachelor of Education degree and unconditionally recognized each program as meeting the academic requirements of the specified IB educator certificate.


The recognition team highly praised the university for commitment of its leadership team to develop and sustain a quality programme, as evidenced by the effort put into reworking their entire Bachelor of Education (BEd). The result is a program that aligns strongly with the educational principles and underpinnings of the IB.
The team was also quite impressed with UBC’s vision to offer this new form of initial teacher education to meet the increasing demand for global educators who are internationally minded, reflective practitioners. UBC is Canada’s first teacher education program with a recognized educator stream.

 

University of Alberta approved for two new IB recognized courses
The IB is delighted to announce that the University of Alberta may now offer both the IB advanced certificate in teaching and learning research and the IB advanced certificate in leadership research. While visiting the University of Alberta, the IB recognition team reviewed the proposed course of study to ensure it aligns with the IB standards and practices.


The recognition team approved the Master of Education in Educational Studies and unconditionally recognized each program as meeting the academic requirements of the specified IB educator certificate.


The recognition team highly praised the university for its commitment to creating vibrant learning communities through a cohort-based blended learning model, beginning with summer face-to-face sessions. Additionally, the team commended University of Alberta for its passion for providing working professional IB educators with a quality program of professional inquiry and critical reflection into their own practices for the benefit of school improvement.

The team was also quite impressed with the strong emphasis placed on reflection through the courses of study, and the commitment to develop teachers’ capacity to reflect upon their own IB practice as well as the relevant research literature.

 

IB welcomes Butler University to the IB educator certificate network

The IB is happy to announce that Butler University may now offer the IB certificate in teaching and learning, PYP and MYP. During a visit to the Butler University campus, the IB recognition team unconditionally recognized the Master’s in Effective Teaching and Leadership Program as well as a non-degree graduate program as meeting the academic requirements of the specified IB educator certificate.


The recognition team applauded Butler University for the strong alignment of its College of Education’s core values and proficiencies with the IB mission and values. Additionally, the team thought highly of Butler University’s creation of courses that include approaches to inquiry, collaboration, reflection, and action research that will be implemented through a student-centered approach to teaching and learning.


The team was also quite impressed with the university’s commitment to developing strong partnerships with International School of Indianapolis, Indianapolis Public Schools, Washington Township schools and the Center for Inquiry located in Indianapolis.
