Updates on the OCC
We would encourage coordinators to update IBIS and their teachers OCC accounts with any staff movements that have occurred. The IB Asia Pacific MYP team would especially appreciate updates on the movements in and out of the region of MYP workshop leaders. While IB Asia Pacific has schools operating on some five different academic years the majority are running a northern hemisphere academic calendar and are thus commencing a new academic year.
We would like to extend our wishes to the coordinators for a very successful year and remake the following notes.
- The new MYP coordinators Guide, Physical Education and Mathematics Guides are out and available on the OCC.
- A new fee schedule takes effect September 2007 and can be found in the new coordinators guide. This affects the annual basic fee and moderation fees.
- When registering teachers for regional workshops, please ensure they are being placed in the most appropriate level of workshop…and…register early…workshops do fill before deadlines.
- All coordinators are reminded that they are to email Curtis or Patrick with their MYP questions.
New MYP Fee Structure
If you have not already done so make sure you take a close look at the new fee structure for moderation. You can find the details of the new fee structure in the 2007 – 2008 MYP Coordinators Handbook. Under the previous fee structure schools paid a per student fee. The new free structure has a per subject fee and a per student fee. For schools with small cohorts (less than 35 students eligible for the MYP Certificate) the new fee structure can have budgetary ramifications.
Head of MYP, IB Curriculum and Assessment
We welcome the new Head of MYP, Malcolm Nicholson, who recently took up residence in Cardiff after a number of years at NIST, Bangkok. Malcolm is also well known in Asia Pacific.
MYP Committee
Werner Paetzold, formally of Suzhou Singapore International School and now MYP coordinator at Bali International School has been named as the Asia Pacific school representative to the MYP Committee. Anne Fowles, Head of BISS, Beijing, chairs this Committee.
Upcoming Developments
- A position paper on “teaching and learning” across the curriculum will be included in a publication on the continuum in 2008.
- Preview of a document inclusive of case studies that gives guidance to schools in interdisciplinary teaching and learning will be available on the OCC late 2007.
The growth of the MYP in Asia Pacific continues and with that the demands on workshop leaders, visiting team members and moderators continue to increase. We sincerely appreciate the invaluable support of colleagues.
