April - June 2006

RHRC

For the first time, in conjunction with the general forum of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IB) in Geneva on 27 April 2006, all four Regional Heads Representative Committees (RHRC) met both separately and jointly on 28 April.

The results of the most recent RHRC election were made public and on behalf of the RHRC I would like to thank all heads of schools for their participation and support.  Both Iain Stirling and Ian Kerr were re-elected and Rod Fraser will rejoin the RHRC.  Thanks to Ian Kerr and the Singapore Office, we have been able to divide our region into eight parts and one of the RHRC members will be in touch with each group to seek input and provide a direct communication link with the elected committee.  We hope to put this into operation soon.

At the IB Asia-Pacific RHRC meeting we discussed a range of issues affecting our region.  The minutes of the meeting will be sent to heads of schools as soon as they are confirmed.  My thanks go to Karin Caffin who chaired the joint meeting and Dianne Korare who acted as secretary for the joint meeting.  Minutes will also be available on headnet in due course.  There was discussion about the similarities and differences among the four IB regions related to communication, workshop provision, level of services offered, evaluation processes and the effective working of all RHRCs.  I am very happy that the opportunity for this meeting was provided by the IB.

The next meetings of IB Asia-Pacific RHRC and RAC will be in Hanoi, at the time of the regional conference in October 2006, on 5 October and 9 October respectively.
