Middle Years Programme
Building a Community of Learners - MYP Networks in IBAP
MYP Coordinators in Australia, Singapore, and Indonesia have established networks to support each other in the implementation of the Middle Years Programme. MYP Coordinators in India have tentatively scheduled 22 April for their initial meeting in Mumbai. These networks are structured so as to meet local needs and as such are unique. Most begin as coordinators, novice and experienced, meet face to face and discuss their successes and challenges; later these networks engender the development of subject group networks.
What all these networks share is the collective understanding that the building of professional communities of teachers is essential for everyone’s professional growth and for their schools success. Research, most notably by Michael Fullan, has resoundingly underscored that professional evolution can only take place if teachers have the opportunity to collaborate in reflecting on, and communicating with, their colleagues.
IB Asia-Pacific regional staff endeavour to attend network meetings as an essential part of their own “professional development”. These meetings are deeply appreciated and highly valued as a way in which MYP regional managers can maintain close personal contact with the realities of the schools in the region.
