Payment rates and working periods

Thinking of becoming an examiner? Read about payment rates and marking periods here before applying.

Payment rates

We review examiner payment rates on an annual basis to ensure that they are representative of the complexity and length of the material being assessed, and to ensure that they are highly competitive in the education sector.

Examiner payments are calculated based on the number of scripts assessed, an example of which is shown below:

  • Rate per script:  $8.00
  • Allocation size:  200 scripts
  • Examiner payment:  $1600

How long does each allocation take?

The allocation size is calculated based upon the complexity and length of the material being assessed. The more complex or longer the script, the smaller resulting allocation.

All allocations/targets are set at levels that examiners should be able to complete whilst in full-time employment.

When registering for an examination session examiners can make themselves available for additional material.
