Before the global financial crisis took hold, professional development (PD) was big news. Every company worth its salt had decided the best way to attract and retain quality staff was to offer them additional skills.

Such concerns might have slipped off the agenda elsewhere, but across the IB community, there's a growing awareness of the way PD can impact on teachers' satisfaction, progression and, ultimately, the way their students learn. PD has always been part of the IB's attraction to teachers, but it will receive a renewed impetus in 2010 under a revamped global framework.
