To download the travel reimbursement policy document, please click here.
The International Baccalaureate mileage policy is currently set at 50.5 cents per mile in the United States. The current mileage policy in Canada is 52 cents per kilometer for the first 5,000 kilometers and 46 cents per kilometer thereafter.
The IB reviews all policies on a yearly basis in January of each year and retains the right to adjust policies based on current standards and best practice in individual countries. If a change in policy is made, the change will be communicated directly to you so that you can plan accordingly.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Finance Department at 212-696-4464 extension 229.
FBI/RCMP Background Checks for IB North America Volunteers
Although it has not been required in previous years, new laws instituted in many US states now require a national fingerprint background clearance for educator certification and employment as well as for volunteers who visit their schools. Please access Background Screening FAQ [80 kb, PDF] for complete details.
If you are a volunteer who is a citizen of the US, you will need an FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) fingerprint background clearance and Canadian volunteers will need an RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) fingerprint background clearance. For those volunteers in countries outside of the US and Canada, please contact volunteer services via email or by phone at 212-696-4464 x 219 for details.
The IB North America Online Volunteer Database
The enthusiasm and talents of our many volunteers has helped thousands of students throughout North America and the Caribbean experience the IB programmes. Current volunteers, such as educators, administrators, workshop leaders, site visitors, consultants, and IB Diploma Programme examiners donate a lot of time and expertise helping to increase access to the IB programmes.
With that in mind, the IB North America staff wanted to improve support systems to better serve your needs as volunteers. IB North America has created an online database where you can:
- correct your professional or personal contact information
- access online assignment descriptions
- get information on upcoming trainings and events
- download or post volunteer information
- submit an application to volunteer
- request personal assistance
Current volunteers may obtain a username and password from our volunteer services department via email or by phone at 212.696.4464 X 219. If you are a new volunteer and would like to participate in IB North America assignments or training, please click on the "Apply Online" section of the site to begin the process.
We hope that you find the site useful and welcome your feedback.
