Scope and Sequence Documents

PYP regional workshops to support the implementation of the new mathematics scope and sequence will be offered in Zurich 6-8 July. The PYP November 6-8 (venue and location to be finalised) regional training event will include a workshop to support the implementation of the new language scope and sequence.

Inschool workshops

Schools are encouraged to apply for inschool workshops for the academic year 2009-10 as soon as possible. Workshops for the August-December 2009 period should be requested before June 2009. The sooner we have your request the more likely it is that we will be able to meet your needs. Schools are reminded that while August-September may seem the most suitable time for an inschool workshop, it can be particularly difficult to arrange inschool workshops in that period as few leaders are available due to the start of year demands of their own schools.

To assist schools in budgeting and planning for professional development, fees for inschool workshops for the school year 2009-10 will be published before the end of April 2009. Further it is envisaged that fees for subsequent years will be published 12 months in advance.

For inschool workshops planned before 1 September 2009, the 2008-9 fee scale has been modified. Schools which have requested workshops for that period can verify the fees which will be applied by contacting: pypibaem@ibo.org.

PYP Authorization training requirements

Candidate school are reminded that it is a requirement of authorization that pedagogical leadership of the programme and all teachers (full- and part-time, homeroom and single-subject) working with PYP students must have received training in PYP inschool or regional workshops.

Schools preparing for an authorization visit should ensure that they will meet this requirement at the point of the authorization visit. Authorized schools should ensure that there are systems and procedures in place to allow them to continue to meet the requirements, which is an ongoing condition of authorization.

Forthcoming training of workshop leaders and school visitors

As soon as it is available, information about forthcoming training for workshop leaders (new leaders and further training for existing leaders) as well as school visitor training events will be:

sent directly to PYP coordinators in authorized and candidate schools.

PYP practitioners interested in applying for any of these training events should contact the PYP coordinator in their own school and/or check the regional page of the IB website regularly to ensure they get details of forthcoming events as they become available.

This year further training for workshop leaders will be a priority. Consequently the next initial training workshop for new workshop leaders will be scheduled for March-April 2010. Applications will be invited early in the 2009-10 school year through the website and through PYP coordinators.
