THE SAN FRANCISCO COMMUNIQUE
A collective statement of the IB Heads assembled for the HSA Conference, October 2007
We believe:
- In the Mission of the IB;
- That the IB should be available to all;
- That all members of the IB community must actively model the Learner Profile
- That quality need not be in conflict with increased access
- That the IB can be a catalyst for change, having a transformational effect on schools and, through schools, on students and, through students, on society
- That the IB must play a leadership role in the stewardship of the environment
We call upon the IB to:
- Sustain and augment the quality of its programmes, assessment and training
- Develop an effective research base to inform programme development
- Exploit the potential of technology to enable both quality and accessibility
- Identify funding partnerships and supporters for access projects
- Promote networking of IB schools with each other, and partnerships between IB and non-IB schools
- Communicate consistently and effectively with schools
We will:
- Act upon our beliefs
- Share expertise locally and beyond
- Develop outreach programmes to take the values of the IB beyond our own schools
- Implement local networks of IB schools
- Seek out opportunities to exert influence at the local, regional and national levels
- Actively support the work of IB through participation
