CONSIDERATION PHASE

• Read Guide to school authorization
• Submit School information form online
• Investigate IB philosophy
• Purchase starter pack from the IB store
• Analyze programme requirements
• Identify necessary resources for programme implementation
• Ensure participation of Head of school or designee in a PYP Category 1 workshop. Schools are encouraged to also send teachers and coordinator- designate to PYP Category 1 workshops to ensure they can make an informed decision regarding programme  implementation
• Designate IB coordinator
• Start to gain the support of the school community
• Decide on whether to implement the programme

Allow  enough time  to submit School information form  before application for candidacy

REQUEST FOR CANDIDACY

• Understand requirements for candidacy as described in the Guide to school authorization
• Develop action plan according to the template provided in the Application for candidacy
• Prepare and submit Application for candidacy using the Guide to school authorization
• Please note the application for candidacy is an online form submitted together with the supporting documents via a password protected platform. The regional office will give the school access to this platform once the school has paid the application fee below.

CANDIDATE PHASE: CONSULTATION PROCESS AND REQUEST FOR AUTHORIZATION

• Understand requirements for authorization as described in the Guide to school authorization
• Set up staff accounts on the Online Curriculum Centre (OCC)
• Work with IB-appointed consultant for a 2-day visit during candidate phase and 20 remote hours per candidate year.
• Ensure participation of pedagogical leadership and all faculty working with PYP students in IB Category 1 workshops.  Schools are advised to meet requirements early in the candidate phase to ensure understanding of the programme.
• Develop supporting documents related to policies, scheduling and curriculum development for the Application for authorization
• Organize collaborative planning
• Update action plan according to the template in the Application for authorization
• Prepare and submit* Application for authorization using Guide to school authorization
• *Schools may  apply for authorization minimum
• into their 2nd year of candidacy

1st July deadline to submit Application for authorization for verification visits from September to December.
1st November to submit Application for authorization for verification visits from January to June

Annual  candidate fee paid by 1st September  of every candidate year

CANDIDATE PHASE: VERIFICATION VISIT

Plan and organize verification visit *as described in the Guide to school authorization
*The earliest a school can host a verification visit  is into their 2nd year of candidacy
