IB & College Selection Process

The college selection journey is an individual process and can be a road toward self-discovery.  The major focus of the workshop will be on how the IB Diploma Programme – with its rigor, alignment, and engagement – prepares students for a successful college experience including the application process, selection and higher-education achievement.   The linkages between CAS, EE, TOK, international-mindedness and HL vs. SL study will be covered in depth.  Creation of a college admissions strategy will be discussed as will the roles of college contacts, teacher recommendations, standardized test scores, parent involvement and early-decision.  Heads of Schools, IB Coordinators and Counselors will benefit from this workshop.

Incorporating TOK, 'Aim 8' and an International Dimension into DP Chemistry

This workshop is intended for IB Chemistry Diploma teachers (SL and/or HL) who have an interest in developing both their own and their students' academic potential. It will be of particular benefit to those chemistry teachers who feel unsure about how to incorporate TOK into their everyday chemistry teaching. The principle aim of this workshop is to encourage students (and teachers) to think critically about chemistry and to question much of the accepted 'wisdom' currently being taught in schools or found in text books. Links will be made both within chemistry itself and between chemistry and the other five subject areas in the IB 'Hexagon'. Ways in which TOK, ICT, 'Aim 8' and the International Dimension can be included in everyday chemistry teaching will be explored. All sessions will include group work and all participants will be encouraged to contribute actively.
