Level 2 PYP Inquiry Workshop at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, NY (IB Americas)

Level 2: This workshop is for teachers, coordinators and administrators who have at least one year of experience working at an authorized PYP school or have at least one year of experience working at a candidate PYP school during its candidacy phase. Practitioners with extensive experience in the PYP, through working at an authorized school, who are now working at a candidate school are also eligible to participate in Level 2 workshops.

In addition to the above requirements, participants must be able to meet criteria specific to the workshop as described below.


Inquiry in the PYP

In this workshop, participants will develop understanding in:

  • how the PYP framework provides opportunities for all teachers and learners to engage in relevant and significant inquiry across the disciplines
  • how inquiry as a pedagogy supports a range of learning needs and styles as well as levels of language competency
  • how inquiry directly supports the personal construction of meaning and active responsible learning
  • how inquiry is an ongoing process which leads to reflection, to new inquiries and to deeper understanding
  • inquiry learning and the essential elements
  • inquiry models and the tools of inquiry

Participants are requested to bring the following to the workshop (either download to their laptops or to bring a hard copy):

  • Copies of their school’s Programme of Inquiry
  • One copy of a unit of inquiry with accompanying assessment tasks/rubrics/ student work samples
  • One copy of Making the PYP Happen

Location and accommodation:

The workshop will be held at the American Museum of Natural History, located on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.  IB North America has not reserved a hotel for this workshop, therefore arrangements are left up to the individual participants. 

 

Workshop Schedule Outline

The workshop will begin the morning of Tuesday, 10 November and will conclude at 12:00 noon on Thursday, 12 November.  Lunch and coffee breaks will be provided at the museum for November 10 and 11.  Coffee break only will be provided on November 12.  Participants are on their own for breakfast and dinner. 

 

International Travel

All non-citizens must present proof of citizenship to enter the United States and Canada.  An acceptable form of identification is a valid passport.

 

Miscellaneous

Please remember that meeting room temperatures and personal comfort zones vary widely. It is recommended that you bring a sweater or jacket to all sessions.

* Meeting Location: In front of the main entrance on Central Park West at 79th Street is the Teddy Roosevelt statue . Please take the half-circle drive way (forty paces to left or right of the statue) down to the lower level beneath the Teddy Roosevelt statue. We will use this entrance since AMNH does not formally open until 10:00AM. You can use this entrance if you arrive late (just ask Security to call Room 319 or contact John at 917-834-0317.)
