Churchill School students trekking
Students from Churchill School hiking up the Paricutin Volcano

During the same year of Churchill School opening, the IB’s representative Leonardo Mayer invited us to attend the first presentation on the PYP to be held in Mexico. Within two years we had been authorized to teach the PYP; authorization to teach the MYP followed in 2005. Today we have close on a thousand students, from kindergarten through to year 9, with 675 following the PYP curriculum and 247 the MYP. Churchill School is private and fee-paying, with a mixed student body drawn from both the national and international communities. Our teaching staff has some British members but is predominantly Mexican. As a body they were quickly convinced of the potential benefits of child-centred, inquiry-based programmes that foster both reflection and action in their students. All our teachers showed great dedication in the preparatory years, enthusiastically attending the training sessions offered by the IB.
