The International Baccalaureate (IB) was started in 1968 by a group of international educators who were motivated by an idealistic vision: they hoped that a shared academic experience emphasizing critical-thinking and exposure to a variety of viewpoints would encourage intercultural understanding and acceptance of others by young people.

This vision is still relevant to the IB mission statement and to the organization’s strategic plan, which calls for providing more access to IB education and bringing it to a wider community, especially to those who are economically disadvantaged. We have made great progress in advancing this vision with the generous support of donors who embrace the opportunity to make IB education available to more students. We invite you to join them.

IB Fund

The strategic plan, which was developed with pro bono support of McKinsey & Company, brings with it a renewed emphasis on raising external funds to allow the IB to pursue a more far-reaching agenda and have a greater impact on education throughout the world. To help the organization secure funds for projects that fall outside the IB’s operating budget, the Council of Foundation set up a fundraising arm – the IB Fund.
