Schools with experimental status may request the use of the IB to cover national requirements in the final two years of high school, but must include national social studies subjects in their programme.

There is no recognition of the IB Diploma in Peru but partial equivalence can be obtained from the Ministry of Education in the case of students who have satisfactorily completed the 4th year of high school in the country. A legalised diploma must be presented and examinations passed in Peruvian history, civics and political economics.

Equivalence must be requested in the Ministry of Education in Lima. On receipt of a Peruvian high school diploma, the applicant is eligible to take university entrance examinations.
